Tyler Evans-Tokaryk

Tyler Evans-Tokaryk has a PhD in English and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Western Ontario. His PhD dissertation examined competing discourses underlying the theory and practice of international development, focusing specifically on economic and literary texts, the relationship between the discourses, and their respective attempts to tell the “story of development.” Tyler is currently a Writing Specialist and the Director of the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre. He recently spent a year as a visiting scholar at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa where he worked at the Academic Development Centre and conducted research on relationship between the discourse of academic writing instruction and the growth of English as an International Language. His current research interests include critical discourse analysis, assessing Writing Across the Curriculum programming, and innovative techniques for teaching discipline-specific writing and reading skills.
